Year-End Appeal Raises Funds for the Community Breast Health Program

Each year, Swedish Hospital provides free screening mammograms to over 800 under-insured women in our community. This year, however, breast cancer screenings have declined by 52% across the nation, including Chicago, due to the fear of contracting COVID-19.  In the coming months, we expect a flood of diagnoses potentially at the advanced stages. In anticipation of the increased number of under-insured individuals needing screening mammograms, and more advanced diagnostic services and treatments, Swedish Hospital Foundation created a year-end appeal directed specifically to our Community Breast Health Program.

Thanks to a very generous donor, we were provided with a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $25,000. We are grateful for our community of donors, for not only did we secure the match, we exceeded it and brought in over $62,000 for the Community Breast Health Program. Dorothy Lam, a Radiologist at Swedish Hospital sees first-hand how donations change patients’ lives; “a gift to the Community Breast Health Program makes screening and treatment available to patients who lack the critical resource needed for healing.  Every dollar goes toward creating peace of mind or saving a life.”

To donate to the Community Breast Health Program, please visit the online donation form or call the Foundation office at (773) 293-5121.
