During this past March, spring was in the air as friends and staff at Swedish Hospital shook off their winter blues and started moving for a good cause.  Over 185 people joined Team Swedish in the Miles for Meaning fitness challenge; a month-long, national competition and fundraiser that tracked miles walked/run in support of a local charitable cause.  Collectively, Team Swedish 1 and Team Swedish 2 participants logged more than 500,000 points (more than 5000 miles!) and brought in over $2,400 for our Community Breast Health program, which provides free mammograms and screening services to uninsured individuals.

A hearty round of applause goes out to all our team members who helped us secure a $1,000 matching donation, but a special thank-you goes to the top three high-achievers from our combined team:

1st – Joel R

2nd – Helena O

3rd – Julie N

When asked why they joined Team Swedish for Miles of Meaning, some of our Team winners felt that giving back to the community was just as important as getting in shape.  According to Mary J. (1st place winner of Team 2), “Miles for Meaning was a fantastic and healthy opportunity for me to give back to my neighborhood hospital. In fact, on many of my walks and runs, my dog and I passed by Swedish hospital, pushing me to go an extra mile”. Joel R. adds, “It was a great experience to be a part of the Swedish Hospital Foundation team during the Miles for Meaning Fitness Challenge. It was both exciting and motivating to be able to support our community and hospital by logging miles and staying active.”

Julie N. echoed this sentiment, “Participating in Miles for Meaning was a great experience.  I was able to combine my love of fitness and competition with my desire to contribute to a worthy cause.  It was fun to join the Swedish Hospital Foundation team knowing that we were working together to help raise funds for the important programs the foundation provides to the community".

Thanks to all our Swedish Team members for participating in Miles for Meaning and starting off spring on the right foot!
