Donor Profile: Helen Larimore

Helen Larimore, a member of Galter LifeCenter (GLC) for over 20 years, left a legacy of compassion and commitment to health by creating the "Helen Larimore Endowed Scholarship Fund” after her passing.  Established as part of her estate, this scholarship will provide GLC memberships to those in the community who are unable to afford them, reflecting Helen's passion for helping others lead healthier lives, regardless of their financial circumstances.

As a therapist, counselor, author and college professor, Helen deeply understood the significance of learning and putting knowledge to use to maintain both physical and mental well-being. She had a strong commitment to her own health, and her personal trainer of over 15 years, Diana Dimas remembers her first day at GLC; “Helen walked into Galter LifeCenter, met with me, and immediately wanted to start her own health journey. She was very dedicated, and knew that health and wellness are beneficial for mind, body and soul and that exercise can support the person as a whole.” Helen so strongly valued the importance of exercise, and the expertise and friendship of her personal trainer, Diana, that she continued her weekly training sessions well into her 80’s. She even transitioned the sessions to her assisted living facility across the street, when she was no longer mobile.

Helen also formed strong bonds with many members and staff at Galter LifeCenter. As Program Director Francie Habash shared, “Helen, felt that her experience at Galter underscored the transformative power of a holistic approach to health. Helen saw how she and other members benefited from our medical fitness center, and felt strongly about helping people in our community who otherwise could not afford a membership.”

Helen's legacy will live on through the future recipients of her scholarship, as they not only have access to GLC’s amenities but also the potential for life-changing improvements in their health and overall well-being. As the Helen Larimore Endowed Scholarship Fund takes effect, its impact will ripple through the community, spreading health, and hope to those who may not otherwise have had the opportunity. Her commitment to compassion, health, and education will continue to inspire those who knew her and those who benefit from her generosity.
