Unrestricted Giving

In addition to our priority programs, Swedish Hospital Foundation also provides support to various activities and annually grants approximately $1.5 million for innovative and new programming at the hospital.

In fiscal year 2020:

  • 701 Foundation donors

  • $1 million invested in Swedish Hospital programs and services

Board Designated Grants

The Foundation Board of Directors provides annual grants to Swedish Hospital using investment earnings from endowment assets.  In 2020, almost $1 million in funding was approved by the Board to initiate a variety of projects, including:

  • To provide residents, fellows and faculty with counseling services and Galter LifeCenter memberships to alleviate the symptoms of burn-out and ensure high-quality care to patients.

  • To initiate a program to address food insecurity and access to healthy foods in the high-need, diverse communities around Swedish.

  • To purchase an innovative, noninvasive portable device to measure patient lung capacity, treating patients faster and more effectively.

  • To purchase a bicycle cage and racks for to help promote health-friendly transportation options for patients and employees.

  • To provide follow-up, home health care visits for low-income stroke patients to assist in their recovery .

  • Youth Mini-Medical Camp. Swedish medical staff hosted a week-long online experience to give underserved Chicago high school students the opportunity to be exposed to careers in clinical medicine.

  • To support research by emergency department residents who studied the impact of providing pulse oximeters to patients for at-home care. This study was published in the Academic Emergency Medicine Journal and The World Health Organization cited this research in their own publications.
