SCH opens Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center
Swedish Covenant Hospital celebrated the opening of the Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center at an Oct. 2 dedication ceremony with donors, friends, community partners and local elected officials.“This Women’s Health Center is state-of-the-art; it’s going to be an example to the rest of the hospitals in this area. As I stand here this morning, I’m very proud of my affiliation and support of this hospital. It’s rare that as an Alderman I get to say this, but this is just a home run.” said Alderman Patrick O’Connor who helped secure $2.4 million in Tax Increment Finance (TIF) funding for the center. Also in attendance were Chicago Deputy Mayor Steve Koch, Alderman Margaret Laurino and State Representative Greg Harris. This was a particularly special day for Jack Rosenberg and his family. The center is named after Jack’s late wife Mayora Rosenberg, a woman who dedicated herself to improving countless lives throughout her career as a social worker. Mayora was a longtime patient of Swedish Covenant Hospital and an avid user of the Galter LifeCenter.“For us, this is a moment frozen in time. Bless you, Mayora.” Jack Rosenberg said. The Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center, a comprehensive diagnostic health center, is the cornerstone of the Women’s Health Initiative. It offers a full range of services and resources in one convenient location. The initiative also features an Access and Education Program, led by a nurse navigator who provides education and connects women to additional resources, and a Resource Center offering group classes and an electronic library with easy to understand health information.“The Women’s Health Initiative began with a vision of providing every woman in this community with the ability to have high quality health care. The vision has been brought to life.” Audrey Silver, co-chair of the Women’s Health Initiative Campaign said. The Women’s Health Initiative is made possible through philanthropic support from friends of Swedish Covenant Hospital including physicians, employees, patients, and the community. More than $3 million has been raised to support the construction of the center, as well as the Access and Education program and Resource Center.“I decided to donate towards the Women’s Health Initiative because I have been a part of the center since the beginning stages," said Kelli Olson, RT-R, radiology manager at Swedish Covenant Hospital. "I have worked with many other individuals to help design this beautiful, state of the art center. I wanted to know I was part of helping this center succeed. My close friend died of breast cancer last year and was also doing this for her and her family.” Kelli is one of 145 Swedish Covenant Hospital employees who contributed a total of $236,000 to the initiative.View photos from the Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony.
