Donor Profile: Shan Bolt

Shan's Gift Transforms Patient Experience

When patients enter the Wound Clinic, they are greeted by Shan Boldt, a dedicated Swedish employee, who made a significant contribution to the comfort and accessibility of our patients. Shan noticed a specific need within the Wound Care department– patients were having a hard time sitting in the standard chairs and needed more adaptive, specialized furniture to feel comfortable.  Without hesitation, he generously donated funds to make these essential purchases possible. The department now boasts brand-new chairs tailored for individuals with a range of health issues.

What makes Shan's story even more inspiring is his personal connection to the cause. Sharing the same challenges as some of our patients, he brings a unique and empathetic perspective to his work. Shan recounts, “For a person, that has been through two major wounds and loss of a limb, comfort in seating for a waiting area is extremely important. I wanted to give back and make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing similar challenges.”

Shan’s Manager, Kristen, is delighted with the upgrades made to the waiting room, and credits Shan for his deep understanding of the needs of our patients. "Shan's incredible generosity has given our department a much-needed boost to be able to offer more ergonomic and comfortable seating for our patients - many of whom require specialty support surfaces while waiting for their appointment.   We have upgraded the current chairs to better accommodate our patient population. The chairs are higher off the floor to allow for easier sitting and standing up, while we also now have bariatric options and hip chairs for our patients with prosthetic lower limbs.  Thanks to Shan, the entire waiting area received a little facelift and the new furniture brightens up the lobby!”

Shan too, is thrilled by the final results, “The patients are so happy and routinely compliment the seating, as the chairs are now higher, wider, and provide a sturdy support for those with wound needs. It is exactly what I envisioned”.

In the midst of our daily routines, it's stories like Shan's that remind us of the compassion and commitment within our Swedish Hospital family. Great things can happen when we work together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
